Elizabeth Legg Obituary

SAUGERTIES - Elizabeth “Betty” L. Legg was born on November 27, 1936 to Evelyn and James Freligh.   Betty left this world on March 10, 2024.

Betty made the world a better place with her quick wit, her love of storytelling, and the way she took care of and showed her appreciation for everyone around her.  If you were lucky enough to know Betty, you loved her. A self-proclaimed “tough old bird,” Betty would tell you she had lived a good, long life. She’d follow that with, “We sure do have a lot of good memories, don’t we?” Betty loved spending time with her family, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and never missed a chance to retell stories of her favorite memories of time spent with them. Some of her favorite times with her children, and later with her grandchildren, were weekends spent at camp. She developed lifelong friendships at the campgrounds where she and her husband, Vincent “Gong” Legg, kept their camper. All time spent with family was special, and Betty especially enjoyed Christmas Eve. She loved gathering the family at her home each year for a lasagna dinner. Betty worked at many different types of jobs over the years, but when asked what she liked most, she always talked about jobs that involve interacting with people and helping them. She loved to serve others and take care of people, whether it was volunteering while attending Atonement Lutheran Church, driving a school bus, working as a home health aide, or serving customers at Lachmann’s Bakery. She loved organizing meals and games with her friends, as well, and often made little gifts to share with the people she cared about. She delighted in brightening someone else’s day, and was known to do things like passing out candy at Bingo while wearing bunny ears for Easter.  Crafts and games were a big part of Betty’s life. From bowling on a league, to crocheting and doing needlework, playing Bingo at the Senior Center, getting together with friends for dominoes, playing Yahtzee with her family, watching game shows, and watching the Yankees play baseball, Betty was always busy with things she loved.  We’ll keep telling your stories, Betty. We have so many good memories.

And as Betty would always say,”That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.” We’ll love you always, Betty.

Betty is predeceased by her parents Evelyn and James, her husband Vincent Legg, her brother Bill Keller, her sister Florence Freligh, sister-in- law Carol Freligh, and her nephew James Freligh. She is survived by her brothers John Freligh (Christina), and Gordon Freligh, her children Vincent Legg (June), Donna Florsch (Chris), Richard Legg (Melissa Shirback), and James Legg (Dave Ghent), grandchildren Kristin Florsch, John Florsch, and Alison Casale (Tom), and great-grandchildren Avery and Morgan Hallam, Austin and Eli Casale, and Natalie and Corinne Florsch, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
