LAKE KATRINE… John “Jack” Sleight, 70, died Sunday, January 13, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Kingston on July 17, 1948 to the late John and Ethel Wager Sleight. A U.S. Navy Veteran he was honorably discharged in 1974 after serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for many years as a self employed plumber and electrician and also in the family business, Sleight Enterprises. Jack was an active member of the Saugerties Powerboat Association and was skilled in the repair of canvas boat covers. Jack’s hobbies included riding his motorcycle and rode with friends to the famous Sturges Bike Rally in South Dakota He enjoyed golfing at Blackhead Mountain and other area courses, bowling and both snow and water skiing. Jack was well known for his friendly outgoing personality, a real charmer, he was always a pleasure to be with.
Survivors include his sister, Sheila (Raymond) Shepardson of Housatonic, MA; nephews, Corey (Nicole) Ernst and Darren (Emily) Ernst; nieces, Erica (Michael) Abel, Alison (Ted) Cruz and Rachel Shepardson; nineteen great nieces and nephews; loyal friends, AnneMarie Prendergast, Bart Bell, Brian Collins, Gary and Darlene Quick, Denise Schoonmaker and many, many others. The family wishes to express abundant thanks for help and kindness of friends during Jack’s illness. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
His Funeral Service will be held 5pm Thursday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., cor. of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3-5pm.
