SAUGERTIES - Alice Allen Smith passed away on October 29, 2024 at the HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston. Born on July 30, 1942 in Jacksonville, FL to Albert Allen and Maud Lightbown Allen, Alice was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
Alice graduated from the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY, and went on to study statistics at Hollins College. She forged a successful career in market research at General Foods and Playtex at a time when there were few women executives.
Alice was happily married to Lewis Smith, Jr. for forty-nine years, during which time they raised two daughters in the Hudson Valley, eventually settling in Ulster County. She was a wonderful cook and gracious hostess who enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings. As “Ga-Ga,” Alice doted on her three grandchildren and was always up for a tea party, sleepover, or round of Nintendo.
She is survived by her husband Lewis, and by her two daughters and their families: Patience, married to Rich Slips and mother of Alice and June; and Katherine, married to Michael Crow and mother of Peter.
Alice's family will gather in a private ceremony to honor her memory.
