Anne D. Buonfiglio, 96, of 36 Seyler Terrace, passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family. Born April 10, 1929, in Astoria, Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Earl and Cecilia Kettle Davis and the sister of deceased brother, John Davis.
A lifelong learner and educator, Anne pursued her passion for teaching by earning a Bachelor's Degree at SUNY New Paltz and her Master's Degree at Fordham University, which led to a rewarding career as a teacher at Riccardi Elementary School. Her commitment to education and her students was evident in every lesson she taught and in the lasting impact she had on the lives of countless children. Anne's dedication to her work extended beyond the classroom as she was actively involved in various associations namely the New York State Retired Teachers' Association, the former Women's Club, the Monday Club, and Friends of the Library. Anne was also a longtime volunteer at the former Benedictine Hospital, a volunteer CCD instructor for the St. Joseph's Church in Glasco, NY, and a member of the Rip Van Winkle Hike Club.
Anne loved to travel. Enjoyed were trips to the Mediterranean (Italy, Spain, and France), England, Ireland, Scandinavian countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland), the Pacific Northwest and the Canadian Rockies as well as Elderhostel trips throughout the United States.
Anne's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Patrick; two sons, Stephen (wife, Marie Kropp) and Mark; her daughter, Mary Ellen Connell (husband, John); her sister, Margaret Costello; her niece, Meaghan Costello; her four adoring grandchildren- Nick Connell, Alex Connell, John Connell and Dominic Buonfiglio and four great grandchildren; Jocelyn, Aubrey, Michael and Maximus. Each of them reflects a part of Anne's wonderful spirit.
Anne enjoyed cross stitching and ceramics as additional hobbies. Some of her favorites times were centered around summers spent with her family. It was there that she enjoyed two of her favorite pastimes; reading by the pool and swimming her daily laps. Although Anne's physical presence may no longer be with us, her remarkable resilient spirit will continue to uplift and inspire us in all that we do.
The family wishes to thank Anne's devoted caregivers, Bernadette Judware, McKenzie Ferrara, and Rachel Saby for opening their hearts to Anne as they helped her to navigate the final chapters of her life. Additionally, thank you to Hudson Valley Hospice for their work which enabled Anne to live out her final days at home.
