Anthony Michael Condo, 65, went to be with his heavenly father on August 23, 2022 after a courageous eight-month battle with lung cancer.
Anthony was born on December 2, 1956 in Albany, NY to the late Anthony J. Condo and Jean (O’Connor) Condo. His childhood was filled with fond memories of growing up on 2nd Avenue where his grandparents owned Condo Superette. The family later moved to Lark Street and South Pearl Street, where he helped with the family launderette. As a child he was an avid reader and had a special talent for drawing.
He graduated from Cardinal McCloskey Memorial High School in 1974 and went on to build a career in the food service industry, having started at Howard Johnson’s at just sixteen years old. He worked his way up through various management positions, and at one time owned his own restaurant in Saugerties, where he settled and raised his family. He went on to work for HMS Host, where he was a manager for the Plattekill Travel Plaza until his retirement in 2020.
Anthony was a lifelong sports fan and consistently followed the Yankees, Rangers, Knicks, Giants, and New England Patriots. He enjoyed participating in fantasy sports, playing golf, making model cars, and completing jumble puzzles. He was known for his knowledge of history and the bible, and could often be found watching black and white films and television shows from his childhood. During his retirement he began a tradition of eating moose tracks ice cream and watching The Three Stooges with his granddaughter.
Survivors include four children: Jason and Dammon Condo of Rensselaer, Devon Condo of Brick, NJ and Chantal Condo of Saugerties. One beloved granddaughter: Marra Condo. Two sisters: Linda (James) Condo of Norwood, MA and Tracey (Craig) Condo of Little Mountain, SC. Two nephews: Michael (Sarah) Sullivan of Chevy Chase, MD, and Patrick Sullivan of Burbank, CA. He is also survived by his former wife Maureen (O’Connor) Condo, and mother-in-law Bernice O’Connor, both of Saugerties.
Above all else, Anthony was a devout Catholic and remained strong in his faith throughout his life. He remained positive and faithful during his devastating diagnosis and treatment and passed away surrounded by family, love, and faith.
We would like to thank Hudson Valley Hospice for their remarkable support during this difficult journey, and wish to send special thanks to RN Debra Madera and Chaplain Jefre Cantu. We would also like to acknowledge Tom Godfrey and Katrina Lombardo for their compassion and generosity. We are extremely grateful to all extended family, friends, and community members who have offered endless support, including Deacon Hank Smith who provided Anthony with his much desired last rites.
Per Anthony’s wishes, services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Anthony to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
