Catherine A. Flanigan

Saugerties……Catherine A. Flanigan, 68, of Elm St. passed away in the early morning hours of October 9, 2023. Born March 25, 1955, in Kingston NY, she was the oldest daughter of William “Boo” Schaffer and the late Nancy Sweeney Schaffer. A lifelong resident of Saugerties, Cathy was a graduate of St. Mary of the Snow Parochial School, Saugerties High School, Class of 1973, where she was named “Mum Queen” in her senior year and a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill. Cathy was a 39-year valued employee of IBM Kingston and Poughkeepsie, also a member of the Quarter Century Club. For many years Cathy was a board member representing IBM at Samuel Gompers High School, Bronx NY. Cathy was also a Big Sister for many years in the Albany NY area. Cathy loved Maine vacations, all ocean beaches, collecting shells and sea glass especially in Maui Hawaii. Sand Dollars were valuable currency in Cathy’s world. Cathy was well known for her wicked sense of humor, a good cup of tea and an occasional coffee with Bailey’s. Cathy loved her hummingbirds and Owls, her garden and anything lavender. Besides her father, survivors include her husband of 45 years, Michael, her son Ian Flanigan of Nashville, TN. Her sister Betsy Weber and husband Mark of Wake Forest, NC., two brothers: Stephen Schaffer, his wife Susan and William “Bill” Schaffer, his wife Jennifer, both of Texas. Along with many nieces and nephews. Cathy’s sister-in-law Patty Flanigan and Cathy’s dear friends, Eileen Kilcommons of Saugerties and Kathy and Mike Funk of Saratoga, NY. Her Funeral service will be held Saturday October 21, 2023, at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. Of John and Lafayette St’s., Saugerties NY. Friends will be received on Friday October 20, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Cathy’s family suggests donations in Cathy’s memory be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
