Christa Mundhenk Obituary

WOODSTOCK -  It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Christa Erna (Weber) Mundhenk of Woodstock, NY on 11-8-25 as the result of a prolonged illness. She was just 2 months shy of her 90th birthday. Although our hearts and lives are left with a big hole, we take comfort in knowing she is now safe at home with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Ebersdorf, Sudetenland in 1936 to Hermann and Marie Weber, Christa experienced a somewhat tumultuous childhood during and after WWII. During the war, the Russian forces expelled them from their home, causing them to live in several refugee camps until they were eventually able to settle in a West German village called Leichendorf (near Nuremberg). There they lived not far from the U.S. Army barracks where her future husband Bill was stationed following the war. A calculated set-up by one of Bill’s instructors and his wife resulted in a romance ending in marriage in 1956. Bill soon brought his new bride back to the U.S. with him, where they started a family in his home state of Michigan. After Bill graduated from college and landed a job with IBM, they moved to Kingston in 1959 and then to Woodstock in 1963, where they spent the rest of their lives. Christa raised her children with unsurpassed motherly love and care, and later went to work as a secretary for the Kingston City School system, where she was loved and appreciated by all who knew her. She was a member of Crosspoint Fellowship church, a talented artist and cook, avid gardener, and all-around wonderful wife, Mom and Oma. Missing her terribly are her husband of almost 70 years (July 28th would have been their 70th anniversary); her children Karen (Rick) Beal of Cincinnati, Gregg (JoAnn) Mundhenk of Lake Katrine, and Monica Koch of Saugerties; and her grandchildren Melissa and Dalton Mundhenk. She is also survived by a sister Elke and a niece and several nephews in Germany. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Ursel in Germany, and her son-in-law Randy Koch. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saugerties Animal Shelter in memory of Christa would be greatly appreciated. Checks may be made payable to Saugerties Animal Welfare Fund and mailed to P.O. Box 45; Saugerties, NY 12477.   Her Memorial Service will be held 4pm December 7 at the Cross Point Fellowship, 459 Hurley Ave.,Hurley. An hour of visitation will be held prior to the service.
