Christopher Lynch Obituary

Our beloved father Christopher James Lynch passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024. Known by family and friends as Kit, Christopher was a resident of Woodstock, NY for over fifty years.

Born in Dublin, Ireland Chris was trained in the culinary arts in Europe and worked in some of Dublin’s finest hotels. Chris immigrated to the United States in the early 60’s and began his career in New York working alongside his fellow countrymen and women in some of New York’s iconic establishments such as the Rainbow Room.

In 1968 Christopher moved to Woodstock with his wife Dolores and their newborn daughter and opened the Woodstock Pub in the center of town, not knowing it would soon be the famous small town in America. The Woodstock Pub became one of the central hangouts for local musicians and other local luminaries during this vibrant time in Woodstock. Chris got to know Van Morrison, who he tipped off that his music was on the radio, unbeknownst to Van.

Later they opened Christys of Woodstock serving up some of Woodstock’s most desirable fare. He did not take reservations, but you could reserve the Duck L’orange or one of their famous homemade desserts. Chris was a true restaurateur, always looking for the next opportunity in the business.

Christopher was a skilled horseman and dog whisperer that showed his deep respect and appreciation of animals.

Chris is survived by his three children, two grandchildren and two sisters, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, both here and in Ireland.
Please consider a donation to Woodstock Fire and Rescue or Hospice of Hudson Valley. Suaimhneas Siorai Air.
