David R. Baldwin, a visionary in the television industry and a cherished member of his local community, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born on December 24, 1948, in Wyalusing, PA, to the late Archie and Letha Baldwin.
David's early years in Wyalusing laid the foundation for a life of intellectual curiosity and academic achievement. He graduated from Penn State University, where he was a proud member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. His time at Penn State shaped the man he would become, instilling in him the values of brotherhood, leadership, and community engagement. He then embarked on a career in education in New York City, touching the lives of many as a teacher and librarian.
The world of television and film became David's professional calling when he joined HBO television working his way up to the Executive Vice President of Program Planning. Over a distinguished 30-year career, he became known as one of the HBO pioneers, contributing to the network's groundbreaking success. He followed up this tenure with an innovating consulting period at Starz. His colleagues remember him as a passionate businessman who helped shape the future of television programming. Beyond his corporate achievements, David's love for film and storytelling led him to join the Woodstock Film Festival Board in 2017. He was a generous supporter, trusted leader, and true believer in the power of storytelling.
Known for his dry wit and love of life, Dave will be remembered not only for his remarkable career, but for his friendship and lively spirit. His legacy and memory will be kept alive by his daughter, Kelly Baldwin, his wife, Mary Jean Baldwin, his sister, Marian Timson, his many nieces and nephews, and his cherished community of friends.
His Funeral Service will be held Saturday 11:45 AM at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Visitation will begin at 10AM. Burial will follow in the Woodstock Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life in town. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Woodstock Film Festival.
