Derek Shocklee Obituary

KINGSTON….. Derek P. Shocklee, 44, of Linderman Ave. died Thursday, January 18, 2024, at his residence. Born July 3, 1979, in Rhinebeck, he was the son of Vincent L. Shocklee of Cairo and Patricia A. (Shocklee) Molloy of Coxsackie.

Derek attended Saugerties high school and grew up in West Saugerties. Derek was employed as the Director of Sales & Marketing for EZ Bus, Inc. in Clifton Park for many years before his illness took him out of work. He went on to start his own company, Simple Assist Me, to help others who were technologically challenged. Formerly a member of a band with his friends, Derek loved music and jamming on his guitar. He was very passionate about politics and social justice. His other passions included computers, IT, and spending as much time with his beloved children and family. His children were his pride and joy, and he loved sharing them with whoever he came across. Some of Derek's happiest moments came from watching his children playing and spending time with their cousins. His nieces and nephews adored their fun-loving, goofy "Uncle D". His caring presence and humor will be missed by many loved ones. He battled a rare genetic disease that was progressive and severe for which he received routine care from the National Institute of Health. Although he struggled with health problems and hardships throughout his life, he never let it get him down. He was always in a good mood, laughing and joking and bringing joy to others. He was a wonderful, loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Derek is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Vincent L. Shocklee and Ruth T. Betzold, and his maternal grandparents, Thomas E. and Mary T. Molloy. He is survived by his father, Vincent L. Shocklee, his mother Patricia A. (Shocklee) Molloy and fiance Alex Kellner; his son and daughter, Sean and Sophia Shocklee; five sisters: Shannon Shocklee (& Jon Finger), Irene Shocklee, Colleen (& Matt) Schumacher , Rebecca (& Tom) Bell, and Teresa (& Darren) Dowd; a brother, Clayton (& Kayleigh) Shocklee, as well as many close nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27th at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.  Friends will be received on Saturday from 9AM-11AM.   Expressions of condolence may be shared with the family at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com.
