NEW BERN, NC. - Douglas W. Dyke, 80, of Rockledge Rd. and formerly of Saugerties and Catskill entered into Heaven Sunday, June 15, 2025 at the Carolina East Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born June 17, 1944 in Brooklyn he was the son of the late Douglas and Mildred Dyke. Predeceased by his first wife, Donna in 1998, survivors include his wife, Carol, a son, David (Audrey) Dyke of Saugerties, two daughters, Deborah (Joseph) Badolato of Altamont, and Denise Dyke of Kingston. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Doug was first and foremost a devoted family man, loving husband, father, and friend to all. His most favorite time was any time with his family. Doug never missed a birthday, graduation, christening, or wedding. He “showed up” for the good days and the hard days. Doug was an adoring, steadfast husband. He was an incredibly loving, supportive Father, and Grandfather to his children and grandchildren. For Doug, it was Family First Always. A New York resident for many years, he was a 36 year employee of Central Hudson Gas & Electric, retiring in 2004. Doug was a life long member of the IBEW Local 320. He was a volunteer firefighter, proudly serving as Assistant Fire Chief for the Saugerties Fire Department for a time. A veteran of the US Navy, he served during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Machinist Mate. Doug proudly served on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and the USS Midway (CV-41). He was a life long member of the VFW in Saugerties.
While he resided in New York State, Doug was a member, usher, and Sunday School Teacher at the United Methodist Church of Saugerties. Doug spent many years volunteering as a Boy Scout Leader. Doug enjoyed the outdoors. He was an active sportsman, a hunter, member of the NRA, and Saugerties Fish and Game Club. Doug was passionate about nature, enjoyed bird watching and gardening, and sharing his discoveries with his children. He also loved to travel, and spent many amazing vacations with Carol by his side in beautiful Florida, and sunny Mexico. His Funeral Procession will form 9:30 AM Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties thence to the Saugerties United Methodist Church, 67 Washington Avenue, Saugerties where at 10:00 AM his funeral service will be conducted. . Interment with military honors will be held in the Blue Mt. Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Wake on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM, at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc.
