Edward Essig Obituary

Ed died peacefully at home on October 5th, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. Ed was born on June 23rd, 1965 and grew up in Woodstock, NY and graduated from Saugerties High School. He proudly worked for Markertek in Saugerties, NY for 32 years and retired over the summer.

Ed had a great love for music, his family and was dedicated to his community. He volunteered at Markertek Open to help raise money for the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. Ed started volunteering at the Rosendale Street Festival in 2004 as a cart driver and by helping with set up and cleanup. He proudly served as a committee member by painting, repairing, and decorating the stages. He never missed a festival, even after he had fallen ill.

Ed had a great passion for music. He learned to play the drums in his youth and continued to play throughout his adult life. Ed loved going to concerts and local shows. He felt such a deep connection with fellow musicians and music enthusiasts.

Ed’s friends and family describe him as a kind and gentle man. He was lighthearted by nature and had a zest for life. He always had a smile on his face and was ready with a quick joke or a pun. He loved laughing and making others laugh. Ed was a dedicated family man, friend, and hard worker. He will be truly missed by us all.

Ed was a beloved husband, father, “Papa”, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother Ellen (Ross) Essig; and his grandparents Ed and Elsie Ross. He was survived by his partner of 31 years Anne Talaniec and his stepchildren Steven Talaniec; Jackie (Talaniec) Czaplak and her husband Stanley Czaplak; His sister Ellen (Essig) Bernstein and her husband Bruce Bernstein; his brother John Essig and his wife Denise Essig. He has four beloved granddaughters- Kyra, Nancy, Autumn, and Meadow. His beloved niece and nephews include Kevin, Corey, Joshua, Steven, and Jessica; and great nieces and nephews Aiden, Rachel, Liam, and Asher. He was cherished by his extended family in Connecticut.

His Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.   Friends will be received on Friday 2-4 and 7- 9 PM.  Family suggests donations in his memory be made to the RosendaleStreetFestival.org.  Expressions of condolence may be shared with the family on Ed's Tribute Wall at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
