Faye Cartmell Obituary
SAUGERTIES - Faye Jean Cartmell (maiden name Ferguson), born on December 10, 1935, in Lancaster, Nebraska to Eli and Hazel Ferguson, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, in Saugerties, New York. She was 89 years old.
Faye graduated from The College of Wooster in 1957 and later earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education from SUNY College at New Paltz. Faye dedicated her life to nurturing and educating others. For over two decades, she taught at The Children's Annex Center for Spectrum Services in Kingston, NY, where her commitment to supporting children with autism left a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.
Beyond her professional life, Faye found joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together. She collected tea cups and glassware with thistle patterns on them, and had quite an impressive collection! She was an avid reader and loved playing cards—especially the game Hands and Feet—with friends and family. She also lavished love on her two rescued cats, Lara and Louise. Her musical talents were a cherished part of her life; she played the piano and sang for many years in the choir at Saugerties United Methodist Church, where she also worshiped faithfully.
Faye is lovingly remembered by her sons, Dan Cartmell and Tom Cartmell; her daughters-in-law, Barb Cartmell and Mona Cartmell; her grandchildren Lauren Bluher, Alex Cartmell and Emily Barahal, and her great grandson Nolan Bluher; her former husband, David Cartmell; and her partner and companion, Dave Jones. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Saugerties United Methodist Church , Washington Ave., Saugerties, NY 12477.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Annex Center for Spectrum Services in Kingston, NY.
