Gabriel M. DePoala, 84, of Stephen Dr. died Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Born December 3, 1941, in Glasco, Gabriel was the son of the late Andrew and Louise DePoala. A lifelong area resident, Gabe proudly stepped away from school and continued his father’s business, Andrew DePoala Mushrooms, and remained deeply connected to the Saugerties community throughout his life. He took great pride in helping shape and strengthen the Glasco community through the development of the baseball fields and the church banquet hall as well as many other projects that benefited the community he loved.
He was a former member of the Glasco Fire Department, former chairman of the Town of Saugerties Planning Board, a member of the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame, a member of the Saugerties Republican Committee, a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s RC Church and the Holy Name Society. He was also an avid animal lover. He found great joy in owning and racing horses in Monticello for many years.
Gabe is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne with whom they just celebrated 62 years of marriage; his two sons, Gabriel (Arlene) DePoala and Vincent DePoala; and his daughter, Andrea DePoala-Nace. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Gabriel DePoala, Christopher DePoala, Rebecca Nace, and Dominic Nace; and his great-granddaughter, Hally May DePoala. He is also survived by his brother in law, Thomas Resso.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Maryann DePoala, and his sisters, Francis Resso and Rosemary Hearn.
Gabe will be remembered for his flip phone, his love for the NY Yankees, strong work ethic, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Known for his cheerful disposition and stubborn determination, he never hesitated to speak his mind and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Some of his happiest moments were spent outside on his tractor or with a hose in hand and a fire close by.
His Funeral Procession will form at 9:15 AM Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets, Saugerties, and proceed to St. Joseph’s RC Church, where at 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends will be received 4-7pm Sunday. Interment will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Barclay Heights. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude and Shriners Children.
