Saugerties - Gail A. Handschuh, 78, of Harry Wells Rd, died Monday, January 27, 2025 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Philmont, NY.
Born September 11, 1946 in Niskayuna, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline Bills.
Gail was a 1964 graduate of Kingston High School. After high school she also went on to get her EMT certification and Physical Therapy Assistant Certification.
An area resident for many years, she was a former employee of Grand Union, Phillips Components and UnitedHealthcare retiring in 2009 to be able to spend more time with her family.
Gail enjoyed going to bingo, attending live music events and spending time with friends and family.
Gail also enjoyed traveling, one of her favorite locations to travel to was Hawaii and to Nevada to see her family. Gail was a past member of the Kiwanis Club of Saugerties, she enjoyed helping at the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival each year and could be found in the Washington Ave ticket booth greeting festival goers with a smile. Gail also volunteered for many charities over the years including the American Heart Association (board member), American Cancer Society (planning committee), People’s Place (Project Santa). Gail was kind to all she came in contact with and would share what she had if she saw someone was struggling.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth (Matt) Bechtold of Saugerties, three sons, Matthew (Jamie) Handschuh of Co., Joseph (Amelia) Handschuh and Ryan (Nicole) Handschuh both of Nevada and daughter in law Loren Handschuh of Catskill. 16 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, and her brother-in-law also survive.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her siblings, Faith, Joseph Jr, Ruth, Fern and Carrie.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pine Haven Care Center for the wonderful care given to Gail during her stay there and the compassion toward the family. Also, John and Elaine Bechtold, her companion David Poole and the many friends for the support over the last few years.
Her Funeral Service will be held 8:15 PM Sunday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Friends will be received on Sunday 6:00 PM - 8:15 PM.
