Gene Zambrella

Gene Zambrella, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, at Sharon Hospital, CT. Born on February 17, 1950, in the Bronx, NY, Gene's warmth and humor touched all who knew him throughout his 75 years of life.
Gene's journey began in the busy streets of the Bronx, where his early years were filled with the vibrant energy of city life. A veteran of the US Navy, he was honorably discharged after his four years of service. Upon returning home, his path led him to relocate upstate and take advantage of the peacefulness of the Blue Mountain area.  He was most known as the beloved custodian at Mt. Marion Elementary School, a role he cherished deeply. His presence in the hallways was a source of comfort and joy for both students and staff, and his dedication to the school community was unwavering.

Gene's greatest pride was his children, Christopher (Sarah McQuade) Zambrella and Aubrey Zambrella. His legacy continues through his two grandchildren, Logan Zambrella-McQuade and Aayla Bollin. Gene's sister, Barbara Renner, also survives him, sharing in the family's fond recollections of a life well-lived. Gene was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karen, in 2017 and his sister, Lorraine O'Neill.

Those who knew Gene will remember him as always ready with a friendly greeting or a joke to brighten your day. His quirky sense of humor was a gift that he generously shared, ensuring that laughter was never in short supply. Gene's impact on the elementary school community was profound. Gene's life was a reminder that the simplest acts of kindness can leave the most enduring impressions.

His Funeral Procession will form 9:15 am Wednesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Procession will arrive at the St. Mary of the Snow church for a 10 am Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in the Blue Mt. Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
