SAUGERTIES…… George P. Gehring, Jr., 83, of Churchland Court, died Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck. Born September 22, 1938, in Kingston, son of the late George and Mary Ann (Buytkus) Gehring.

Predeceased by his wife, the former Jill Lezette, survivors include two daughters: Bobbi (Paul) Hughes of Titusville, Fla., and Gretchen (Mike) Craft of Saugerties. A granddaughter: Randi (Jeffrey) Worrad of Saugerties, two great grandchildren: Morgan and Jonathan. A brother, Robert Gehring of Saugerties, in laws: Robert (Joan) and Donald (Eileen) Lezette, Sue Lezette Michaels (Rich) and Tonita Lezette. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by a sister: Mariann (Edward) Krum, nephews: Michael Krum and Steven Scheffel, a brother in law: Karl Lezette and step mother Helen Hally. Also, his beloved dogs Pookie and Junior.

A former employee of Fehr Brothers, retiring in 2016, he was also a truck driver for local companies. George was happiest surrounded by his wife, girls and grandchildren. On occasion, he would whip up a batch of homemade potato chips. Growing up on the south side of Saugerties, he was fondly known as “Tookie”. He could give you “exact” directions to anywhere, from memory. He was a quiet man with a quick wit and sense of humor. After the passing of his wife, he continued her daily feeding of the birds at their home but life was never the same, missing her terribly. His multiple daily calls, that didn’t end, until many goodbyes, will be missed forever. When we smell the sweet aroma of cherry vanilla pipe tobacco, we will know he is visiting.

His Funeral Service will be held privately with arrangements under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Expressions of condolence may be shared with the family on George’s Tribute Wall at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
