George Vizvary Obituary

CLIFTON PARK....George E. Vizvary, 87, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away peacefully  at his home on Saturday, June 10, 2023. He was born in Újpest, Hungary on April 14,  1936 to the late Imre and Ilona Vizvary.

He was the loving husband of Jean Vizvary for 32 years of marriage; father of four  daughters, Dora Swan (Peter Kenyon) of Malta, Judith Iapoce of Eastham, MA, Patricia Vizvary (Nikolas Kindervater) of Altamont and Erika Thompson (Christopher) of Clifton  Park; caring grandfather of Kelly, Ryan, John, Samuel, Maggie, Blair, Colin, Lukas and  Leo; and,-great grandfather of Ava, Alexander, Poppy, Daisy, Emilyn and Liam.

George escaped from Hungary on foot through the Iron Curtain during the 1956  Hungarian Revolution, landing in Saugerties, NY. He was recruited by IBM in Kingston,  NY, through the Hungarian Refugee Program, where he worked for over a decade.  Additionally, George had a long teaching and coaching career at Ulster County  Community College. During his teaching career at UCCC, he rose to the position of the  Engineering Program Chair. As a soccer coach, Vizvary had a knack for recruiting  young talent and developing them into strong athletes and men. During his time at  UCCC he brought the Ulster Senators to 1977 and 1978 National Championship wins. When he retired from UCCC in 2010, Vizvary had registered the most wins in junior  college history, recording a 534-159-28 mark at the school. In his later years, he was  also the Director of Coaching for the boys and girls soccer programs at The Mount  Academy, developing the programs from the ground up and bringing them four State  Championships. Coach Vizvary was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic  Association Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame in 2007 and received the Walt Chyzowych  Lifetime Achievement Award for a distinguished soccer career in 2015.

George had a great love for the outdoors and spent time gardening and making  snowmen with his children and grandchildren. He developed a talent for Hungarian  cooking through which he shared his culture. He entertained many audiences over the  years with stories of his escape from Hungary and many other adventures, oftentimes  including sound effects and hand gestures. George was a character; he was also known  for his humorous words of encouragement to his children, grandchildren and team  players.

His Visitation will be at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home (45 John Street, Saugerties, NY  12477) on Wednesday June 14th, 2023 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm.
