SAUGERTIES...Gerald J. "Gerry" Slater, 88, of Blue Hills Dr., died Saturday, April 2, 2022 at his residence, with his daughters by his side. He was born in Kingston on July 31, 1933 to the late Howard and Blanche Cross Slater. A US Air Force Veteran, he served our nation during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he was employed for IBM in operations for over 25 years until he retired at the age of 60. Afterwards Gerry enjoyed over 20 years driving and working with Sawyer Motors. A talented butcher and excellent woodworker he built and installed many kitchens and cabinets for the community. Over the years he was a member of the Saugerties Bowlers Club and Saugerties Fish and Game Club. Affectionately nicknamed “Chief” by his sons-in-law, Gerry was a dedicated grandfather, father and husband. He loved to take his family camping, snowmobiling, and fishing.
Survivors include his three daughters, Nancy (Bruce) Morrison of Lake Katrine, Joanne LeGoff of Saugerties and Gerri (Bob) Fieno of Cornelius, NC; six grandchildren, Joel (Beth) LeGoff, Adrian (Carey) LeGoff, Derek LeGoff, Kate (TJ) Olmsted, Elizabeth Fieno and Joseph Fieno; great grandchild, Kaelin LeGoff and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Arline, daughter, Terri Tiedtke, son-in-law Joel LeGoff,and grandson, Matthew Tiedtke.
His Funeral Service will be held 10 AM Saturday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Burial with military honors will follow in the Wiltwyck Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hudson Valley Hospice.
