Geraldine Hoekstra

Saugerties NY – Geraldine Hoekstra, 93, of Saugerties died peacefully at home on July 26, 2022. Born May 30, 1929 in Wyckel Netherlands the daughter of Roelof and Pietertje Haringsma.

She emigrated to the USA in 1952 and married her sweetheart Gerben in Montgomery, NY.  They lived in Saugerties, NY, from 1964 – 1994.  They retired to Afton, TN.  Geraldine returned to Saugerties in 2015. Her life’s work included raising 6 children, helping on the dairy farm and then helping at the garage (known as the Reliable Dutchman).  She loved to garden, read and her family were the joy of her life.  She was supportive and proud of each of them and loved telling their stories.  She will be greatly missed.

Predeceased by her husband Gerben in 2015, survivors include Six Children: Peter (Lisa) Hoekstra of Ann Arbor MI, Debbie (Tom) Redmond of Saugerties NY, Teresa (Ed) Goldschlag of Clearwater FL, Donna (Jay) Gakenheimer of Saugerties NY, Judy Reimer (John Benzinger) of Saugerties NY and Ralph (Cecelia) Hoekstra of Pembrooke Pines, Fl. Eleven Grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jenny, Michelle, Phoebe, Michael, Nathan, Nicole, Traci, Erick, Rachel and Keven. Nine Great Grandchildren: Emma, Cameron, Violet, Oak, Cole, August, Autumn, Leona and Lucas.

A private celebration will be held at a later date. Her family will be planting trees and flowers in her memory.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc.
