Geraldine Malgieri Obituary

SAUGERTIES - Geraldine Barbara (Kutil) Malgieri, 91, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. She was born on February 11, 1933, in Schenectady, New York.

Geraldine, affectionately known as "Gram" to family and friends, was the matriarch of our family. All holidays, parties, special occasions, and family gatherings always occurred at Gram's house. She loved having her family all around her and making everyone happy. Gram was always the one family members looked to for advice or to sit and listen to their issues. Gerry often said she was there to help solve many of the world's problems for her family. She was well-versed in world events and unafraid to share her opinion. Her mind was sharp, and she always reminded her children how things used to be as she was growing up and how those times affected her. Gram was kind, loving, and gentle and would give anything to those in need. Gram was tough and stern when she had to be and stubborn when her mind was made up. She lived for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of her biggest thrills was when the family came to visit, and the children would run up and give her a big hug. She adored those times and spoke of them often. She was also proud of her accomplishments, and raising her family was the most important thing to her. As her children and grandchildren moved through their lives, Gram was always there to provide support and advice.

Gerry was actively involved in her community, serving as a Girl Scout Leader, President of the PTA, and Sunday School teacher. She was passionate about music and played the piano, even participating in dueling piano duets in her younger years. She enjoyed line dancing, shopping, and taking pride in decorating her home for various holidays. Gerry cherished reminiscing about high school and playing tennis with her girlfriends. She was known for her strong opinions and willingness to express them.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Nicholas Malgieri, daughter Cheryl Ann Richter (Neal Owen Richter), daughter-in-law, Sue Malgieri, granddaughters Angelica Owen, Jessica Compain (Monty Compain), and Nicole Erker (Jeff Erker), grandsons Nicholas Malgieri, Jeremiah Malgieri (Marin Malgieri), Marc Malgieri (Alainna Malgieri), Michael Malgieri (April Malgieri), and Anthony Owen. Geraldine is also survived by her great-grandchildren Madison, Michael, Caiden, Sienna, Myla, Ava, Gavin, Gianna, Alexandra, Lily, Ayla, and Maylin.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jerry and Annie Kutil of Schenectady, NY; her husband, A. Nicholas Malgieri; her children, Nicholas L. Malgieri and Cathy Ann Owen; and her grandson, Brandon T. Richter.

Gram will surely be missed by all those who knew her, and she will leave a big void in our family. But she also left many outstanding memories and stories for us to tell. Rest in peace. You did a great job in your time with us all. Thank you for everything.
