Gregory Brownstone, 67, a long-time resident of Malden and, most recently, The Mill on East Bridge Street, died at his home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. A lifelong New Yorker, he grew up in Chappaqua and became hooked on the Hudson Valley when he attended Bard College in the late 1970s. He found his passions here – his life partner, the late Shirley Plitt, his step kids Jeri Guidry and Michael Plitt and a life that was supported by thirty years in the auto business but always centered around friends, family and the riches this special place offered. From climbing Catskill peaks with his best friend Paul Andreasson to making every inch of the Hudson his playground as he paddled his kayak surrounded by his Malden Yacht Club compatriots, Greg lived a life defined by his love of the people around him, every dog and cat within sight and the land he inhabited.. He was a classic who loved classics – from 1930s movies to Lindisfarne Mead to black powder guns. He will be missed but never forgotten.
Greg is survived by stepdaughter Jeri Guidry, her husband Ed and their children Esme and Arlo of Scotia, NY; stepson Michael Plitt, his wife Kristie of Darien, NY and their daughter Imogene of Darien NY; and his brother, Douglass Brownstone, his wife Deborah of Calabasas CA and their children Jane and Daniel, both in the Los Angeles region.
Friends can come together to remember Greg on Sunday November 19th from 2 to 4PM at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral home located at 45 John St, Saugerties, NY 12477. Memories and thoughts can be shared on his Tribute Wall at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com.
