Helen F. Gambino

GLASCO - Helen F. Gambino, 84, of Rte. 32 died peacefully Thursday, July 11, 2024 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.  Born September 10, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY  she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mildred (Anzalone) Meringolo.   An area resident for many years, she was a retired employee of the Great American Grocery Store.  

Helen was an amazing cook and loved to spoil her family.  Her Sicilian heritage taught her that food is love and family is everything.   An avid gardener who enjoyed her flowers, and creating a comfortable home where loved ones could gather.  She was a Mets fan! She was politically astute and a fierce believer in our democracy and public service. She had immense pride that her Grandfather served on the Italian Squad with Lt. Joseph Petrosino. She cherished her Catholic faith and was a member of the Columbiettes and the Lady Elks of Saugerties.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 65 years. Frank P. Gambino, a son, Frank T. Gambino (Darlene) of Saugerties, two daughters, Isabella Short of Saugerties and Valerie (Robert) Carelli of Woodstock.  Four brothers: Tom, Ed, John and Robert Meringolo, a sister: Sally Parker, seven grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Her Funeral Procession will form 9:45 AM Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties thence to St. Joseph's RC Church where at 10:30 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  Expressions of condolence may be shared with Helen's family on her tribute wall at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
