Isabel F. DeCelle

Isabel Marie DeCelle, 89, of Saugerties, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and tireless community volunteer, died surrounded by family members on Sunday May 16, 2021 at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston. Born on January 14, 1932 in Lynbrook, NY to Charles and Isabel Fizell.  Isabel graduated from St. Agnes High School where she was editor of an award-winning student newspaper. That role led to her employment at the Brooklyn Eagle in the 1950s and a lifelong love of journalism. Isabel married Arthur DeCelle in 1956 and they moved to Saugerties in 1958. Their marriage of 63 years was blessed with 12 children. Isabel is remembered by her family as a loving mother, a faithful Christian, and the organizer of innumerable camping and road trips and family celebrations. Her July 4th parties on Market Street were enjoyed by hundreds of friends and welcomed total strangers.
Isabel worked for many years at the Saugerties Post Star and the Kingston Freeman. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Snow Church, an officer of the Rosary Society, a Eucharistic Minister and member of the parish liturgy committee. She and her husband were members of the Pastoral Care Team at Kingston Hospital for many years. Isabel was a Girl Scout Leader for more than 20 years, a Cub Scout leader; and a member of numerous civic organizations.   She was President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and helped organize many Saugerties Loyalty Day parades, fundraisers, and service projects for disabled veterans.  Isabel is predeceased by her husband, Arthur, and son Charles. Isabel is survived by eleven children and their spouses: Arthur (Lien), Francesca Dani DeCelle, Isabel, Margaret Moree (John), Paul (Sandy), Maryanne, Bernadette (Peter), Mark (Sherry), Aimee Lepe (Juan), Christopher (Michelle), Gregory (Moira), and Nancy. Also 25 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 

Her Funeral Procession will form 9:15 AM Saturday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts. thence to St. Mary of the Snow where at 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.    Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  Family suggests donations in Isabel's honor to be directed to Saugerties Area Council of Churches in support of “The Well Thrift Shop” PO Box 723, Saugerties, NY  12477  or Friends of the Saugerties Public Library, Washington Ave., Saugerties, NY 12477.  Further obituary information and expressions of condolence may be shared with Isabel's family @SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
