James J. Horan, Jr.

WEST HURLEY…… James J. Horan, Jr., 80, of 77 Tangelwood Rd., died at home on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 surrounded by his family and friends. Born on February 19, 1943 in Manhattan he was the only child and son of the late James and Mary Horan. A resident of West Hurley for over 50 years, he joined the State Police on June26,1966. He worked in many Troops across the state but the majority of his career was spent in Troop F where he retired on January 17, 1993 as a Lieutenant.

After his retirement he was employed by the US Marshall Service in Albany. Jim was an avid reader with a passion for American History and the Civil War. He was a member of the Morgan Hill Rod & Gun Club and a parishioner of St. John’s RC Church in Woodstock.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra, with whom he recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary; two daughters: Kathleen (Kenneth) Schupp of Kingston and Shannon (Mitch) Manzo of New Paltz; son, Shaun (Charlotte) Horan of Queen Creek, AZ; six grandchildren: Kaitlin (Chris) Gage, Michael Schupp, Nicholas (Alissa) Schupp, Patrick, Justin and Sophia Horan; great grandchild, Parker Gage and his two loyal and loving dogs Mackenzie and Maggie.
His funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at St. John’s RC Church in Holly Hills, Woodstock. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3-6 pm at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the West Hurley Fire Department at P.O.
