YULEE, FL....James L. Ross, 80 of Elise Rd. and formerly Esopus Creek Rd., Saugerties, died Friday July 8, 2022 in Fernandina Beach, FL. He was born in Brooklyn on November 12, 1941 to the late James and Natalie Carey Ross. Jim served our nation in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home he pursued a position with IBM as a computer programer until retiring in 1991. Jim enjoyed playing golf especially at the Rip Van Winkle Golf Course in Palenville. He loved fishing, was a talented woodworker ,enjoyed painting and other artistic hobbies, but what he’d be most proud of is the dog rescue they started in Yulee called Meemaw’s place. Over the years, they rescued and fostered hundreds of dogs. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow RC Church, and was a member of the Saugerties Knights of Columbus Council 4536, an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 14295 in Fernandina Beach, a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Mission Church in Yulee and St. Michael's RC Church in Fernandina Beach.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Seissler Ross in January of 2022. Survivors include his Brother Bill of Spokane WA, sister Ginny of Ledyard CT.., his former wife, Lyn Ross, and his sons from his previous marriage, Steven (Jodie) Ross of Marbletown, Michael (Lisa) Ross of Saugerties and Matthew Ross of Saugerties and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also Barbara's step children: Martha, John and Eric.
His Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St.. Mary of the Snow Church., Cedar St., Saugerties, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.
