Jeanne Goldberg, 83, of Churchland Ln., died on Saturday, December 13, 2025 surrounded by her family at her residence after a brief illness. She was born on June 11, 1942 to the late Wesley and Gladys (Klothe) Smith.
She spent her early years in Penn Yan, NY, but in 1956, accompanied her family to Saigon, Vietnam, where she completed high school. From a young age, Jeanne had known that she wanted to be a nurse, and in 1961, she completed the first step of that journey when she enrolled in Skidmore College. After graduating in 1963 with her RN and BS in nursing, she continued her professional journey at NYU Hospital. She loved her years of working and living in New York City, and was extremely accomplished in her chosen profession, earning an MS in Nursing Education. It was during those happy years that she met the love of her life, Kenneth Goldberg.
In 1977, Jeanne and Ken married and soon after the birth of their first son, Timothy, moved their primary home from NYC to Saugerties. Jeanne and Ken welcomed two more children, Rebecca and Andrew, and Jeanne was able to enjoy the happiest years of her life, raising her children while finding ways to contribute to her beloved community of Saugerties. She was passionate about local history and archaeology, and co-founded the Saugerties Archaeology Research and Education Project. She was a long-time member of the Saugerties Historical Society and served as a member and chair of the Village of Saugerties Zoning Board of Appeals for many years, during which she was recognized for her exemplary service and leadership.
Jeanne enjoyed a rich and fascinating life, and while all her accomplishments were remarkable, her greatest gift was connecting with and loving the people in her world. Nothing meant more to her than her family and community, and Jeanne’s legacy is her unrelenting love for and service to every person who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her loving family includes her beloved husband of 44 years, Kenneth; three children who will carry along her spirit, Timothy of Hickory, NC, Rebecca of Troy, NY, and Andrew Goldberg of Saugerties, NY; and a brother, Russell Smith of TN. She was predeceased by her sister, Judith Poulin.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Saugerties Public Library.
