John H. Moree

ATHENS…..John H. Moree, 83, formerly of Saugerties passed Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at his home in Athens, NY.    Born October 5, 1940 in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of Robert and Dorothy Moree.

John attended the Park School in Buffalo and graduated Lafayette High School in Buffalo in 1958.  He had a successful forty-year career as an insurance agent and broker, including over twenty-five years in Saugerties with the Lezette-Lachmann-Moree Agency, the Moree-Reis Agency, and its successor firm The Reis Group.  John was a founding, charter member and Past President of the Saugerties Kiwanis and served in multiple capacities at the regional, as Lt. Governor and state level with Kiwanis International.   He moved to Athens in 2011 to be closer to his son and daughter-in-law.

A lifelong Buffalo Bills fan and passionate consumer of Buffalo wings, John was predeceased by his wife of forty-six years, Bette, in 2006.  His sister, Lynn Lyon of South Haven, Michigan survives him, as do his son John and daughter-in-law Maggie of Athens, and his son Peter of Cairo.  Three grandchildren, Keith, Shawon and Chloe also survive him.

John was a lifelong animal lover, never having been without a pet dog or cat.  Those wishing to remember John should consider supporting the local animal shelter or the many activities supported by the Saugerties Kiwanis. PO Box 443, Saugerties, NY  12477.
