John O'Rourke Obituary

John M. O'Rourke, affectionately known as "Johnny O", passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on September 20, 1961, in Kingston, son of the late Jack and Dona O'Rourke, his life was one marked by love, service, and a joy for living that touched all who knew him. He was a devoted husband to Donna O'Rourke, a loving father to Sarah Silinovich, Amy (Larry) Kimlin, and Andrea Silinovich (Seth LaBounty), and a cherished brother to Kevin (Pam) O'Rourke, Kate (Craig) Lombard, and Mary (Mark) Wilsey.

Johnny O's legacy extends to his adored grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as "Opa"—Cassie (Patrick), Jessica (Bryan), Matthew, Charlie, Benjamin, Naomi, Evelyn, and Lucas—and his great-grandchildren, Milo, Avalia, and Finn. They will forever hold dear the memories of their Opa's warmth and playful spirit.

A proud alumnus of St. Mary's of the Snow Elementary and Saugerties High School, Johnny O's work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his career. He spent many years behind the wheel for Dutchess Beer Distributors before retiring from Methods Tooling in Mt. Marion as a logistics manager. His colleagues will remember him as a man who brought not just skill, but camaraderie to the workplace.

Johnny O's commitment to his community was unwavering. A former member of the Centerville-Cedar Grove Fire Department and a life member of the Saugerties Sons of the Legion, he served as Past Commander, cherishing the brotherhood and extending his network by visiting other American Legion Posts during his travels. His membership in the B.P.O.Elks Lodge #2574 further showcased his dedication to fellowship and service.

A chef at heart, Johnny O, alongside his wife Donna, ran a successful catering business, where his culinary talents and generous nature were on full display. He was the embodiment of hospitality, always ready to welcome friends and family into his home with open arms and a hearty meal.

An avid New York Giants fan and movie buff, Johnny O could quote lines from the silver screen with uncanny accuracy. His love for golf and annual trips to Florida were among his cherished pastimes, as was his knack for fixing appliances and small engine machinery. Family gatherings often found him at the head of the table, leading games of Yahtzee, cranking tunes, and playing air guitar, much to the delight of those around him.

Johnny O was a loving husband, father, Opa, and friend whose heart of gold and thoughtful kindness made him a beacon of light in the lives of many. His presence at the Euchre card table will be deeply missed, as will his inclusive and welcoming nature.

We celebrate a life well-lived, a man who gave of himself freely and loved without bounds. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
