Jonathan Light Obituary

Jonathan Light was born in Mount Vernon, New York on March 31, 1953 and died in Saugerties, NY on January 26, 2025 after a brief illness. He worked for many years as a fine arts silk screener in New York City, living for most of that time in Brooklyn. Music was always his passion. In the 1970’s he was part of the avant-garde jazz scene in lower Manhattan, playing piano with various musicians. He taught himself to build musical instruments and learned to play pedal steel guitar. After retirement, he moved to Saugerties where he played pedal steel with many local musicians. He loved the wildlife around his house, particularly the turtles in the stream that ran through his property.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Kitty Light of Westerly, Rhode Island, his nephew Jesse Light and his wife Beth Kerrigan of Lowell, MA and his grandnephew Kalmin Redner-Light of Lowell. He also leaves several cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents Hani and Jerome Light.
To celebrate his memory, listen to music that makes you happy. Donations in his memory can be made to the Turtle Survival Alliance (https://turtlesurvival.org/)
