Joseph E. Matthews

Joseph Edgar Matthews, a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in Saugerties, NY, on May 12, 2025, at the age of 74. He was born on September 23, 1950, in Mt. Vernon, NY. He was the beloved son of the late Joseph Edgar Matthews and Margaret Clarke Matthews, and a caring brother to his late sisters, Margaret and Linda Matthews, and Kristen Peterson, who currently resides in Iowa.

He pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's Degree. He spent many years working at KTB, also known as Treasure Chest and Vertis, and later as a caseworker in the Chronic Care Department for the Ulster County Department of Social Services. He worked tirelessly to ensure those in need received the care and support they deserved.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Barbara, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. Together, they raised two daughters, Jennifer Matthews-Senor and Melissa Matthews, instilling in them the values of love, humor, a joy of music, and perseverance. Joseph's role as a father was one he cherished deeply, and his guidance and support continued to resonate with his daughters throughout their lives. Joseph's love extended to his grandchildren, Teaghan and Devin Senor, who brought him immeasurable joy. He reveled in their accomplishments and milestones.

His visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., cor. of John and Lafayette Sts. Interment will be held privately, at a later date.
