SAUGERTIES… Joseph A. Nista, 94, of Nista Road died Friday, July 23, 2021 at his residence. Born February 17, 1927 in Newark, NJ he was the son of the late Antonio and Delores Lupo Nista, immigrants from Italy seeking the American Dream. Raised and educated in the Bronx, he enlisted in the US Army in April of 1945, served in WWII and was honorably discharged in December of 1946. He was employed for many years with the NYS Port Authority-Triborough Bridge retiring in 1966. He relocated to High Woods in 1968.
Joe became an active member of the Saugerties VFW Post #5034, serving as Post Commander and All State Hudson Valley Commander. He held numerous district and NYS appointments. He was a member of the Saugerties American Legion Post #72, the Centerville Fire Co., High Woods Sportsman Club and the Sons of Norway.
Predeceased by his wife, Shirley in 1997, survivors include two daughters: JoAnne (Paul) Drake of Virginia Beach, and Jeanine Breakstone of New York City and a son, Dr. Joseph (Sandy) Nista of East Greenbush. He is also survived by one brother, Frank Nista, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Joe will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
His Funeral Procession will form 9:45 am Friday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. Of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties thence to St. John the Evangelist RC Church where at 10:30 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Burial with military honors will be conducted in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9pm on Thursday.
