SAUGERTIES.... Joy A. Crist, 99, of Appletree Dr. and formerly of Pine St. in Kingston died Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. Born December 20, 1921 in Watertown, SD, she was the daughter of Irving and Elizabeth Weniger. An area resident since 1946, she was a former registered nurse. She later worked as a lunch monitor at George Washington Elementary School for several decades.
Joy was a former member of Clinton Ave. Methodist Church, where she was active in the Women’s Group and taught Sunday School, and a current member of Grace Community Church. She loved tending to her gardens, music, dancing, camping, cats and being surrounded by her family.
Joy was predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 1995, her four brothers, Kenneth, Emmett, Robert and Richard, and her daughter-in-law Marianne. Survivors include two sons: James of Port Ewen and Richard (Michelle) Crist of Hurley and two daughters: Valerie (Rich) Koegel and Elizabeth (Ted) Suttmeier, both of Saugerties. 11 Grandchildren: Nicholas (Barb) Crist of Kingston, Beth (JR) Varner of Westboro, MA, Steven (Katie) Crist of Accord, Elise (Bryan) Morse of Port Ewen, Kristin (Nick) Bernard, Dan (Kristin) Koegel, and Michael (Brooke) Koegel all of Saugerties, Luke (Tasha) Suttmeier of Nobleboro, ME, Emily (Josh) dos Santos of Los Angeles, CA, Nathan (Molly) Suttmeier of Saugerties and Jenn Suttmeier of Albany. 14 Great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Her Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Monday at Grace Community Church in Lake Katrine. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Saugerties.
