Joyce M. Darling

SAUGERTIES…. Joyce M. Darling, 96, of Canterbury Dr. and formerly of Mecklenburg, NY died Wednesday at her home surrounded by her family.  Born November 2, 1927 in Towsend, NY she was the daughter of the late Walter and Marguerite Hughey.  A graduate of Watkins Glen High School she continued on to achieve her LPN degree in Ithaca.  She was employed for over 24 years as a LPN in the Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY.

An avid euchre player, she belonged to the Saugerties Senior Citizens Club, the Mecklenburg United Methodist Church and the Mecklenburg Fire Co. Auxillary.   Proud to be a farmer’s wife, Joyce was predeceased by her 1st husband, Merlyn “Ted” Halpin and her 2nd husband, Stanley Darling, a son, Thomas Halpin, a brother, Lynn Hughey and two stepsons: Thomas and Jody Darling.   Survivors include: two daughters: Margo (Bob) McGilvrey and Marilyn Halpin both of Saugerties, two sons: L. Robert (Sandy) Halpin of Salt Lake City, UT., and Ned (Arla) Halpin of VA.  A sister, Barbara Baldwin of South Carolina two stepchildren: Annie (Tim) Hull and John “Jack” (Francine) Darling, 55 grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Her Funeral Service will be Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 12 noon in the Mecklenburg Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Odessa, NY.  Family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to either the Mecklenburg Methodist Church, 6063 Turnpike Rd. Mecklenburg, NY 14863 or the Mecklenburg Fire Dept., 4496 Ct. Rte. 6, Mecklenburg, NY 14863.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc.
