Leanne Hunlock Obituary

Leanne Elizabeth Hunlock (nėe Mower), 63, of South Partition Street, Saugerties, died Saturday after a brief illness.  A life-long Saugerties resident, Leanne was born August 13, 1960, to the late Eleanor “Miss Ellie” Wolven (nėe Peters).   She was a 1978 graduate of Saugerties High School. Over her working life, Leanne worked the factory grind at Ferroxcube, Philips Magnavox, the American Candle Company, and later Simulaids, Inc.  Leanne was a kind-hearted, friendly soul with a ready smile who could strike up a conversation with anyone. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially sipping a good cup of coffee, taking in the sun on her back porch. She loved gathering family and friends for a good barbeque, where folks would fight for the last spoonful of her famous coleslaw. Her grandsons, Jace “freight train” and Cade “Monkey” Nadal were the shining apples of her eye.  She delighted in cheering on her boys as they excelled at baseball and wrestling. Her biggest – and proudest – accomplishment was raising her children to follow their hearts, use their brains, and to have courage.

Survivors include her loving husband, Edward of Saugerties; her son and daughter-in-law, Ryan & Ashley Hunlock of New Haven, CT; her daughter and son-in-law, Kayla & Steven Nadal of Saugerties; her father, Robert “Mouse” Wolven, of South Daytona Florida; stepdaughter Elizabeth and her children, Zaria and Danny, of Lake Katrine; and beloved four-legged companions, cats Bella and Stella, and bark-factory Oliver. Survivors also include her maternal brothers Joe (Teresa) Mower of Knoxville, TN; Barry (Carol) Mower of Saugerties, Jay Mower of Catskill; Bob (Darcy) Wolven of Daytona, FL; and Tim (Crystal) Wolven of Washington; paternal sisters Melissa DeStio of Stuart, FL, and Beth Fisco of Saugerties; and her stepmother, Alice Legg of Saugerties.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Leanne’s dedicated homecare worker, Julie McDonough, her long-time healthcare professionals – Marie de la Parte, NP, Dr. Joseph Christiana, MD, and Dr. Andreas Spirig, MD, and the grossly overworked and underpaid nursing staff of the numerous facilities that treated her over a several year span, especially the ICU of Saint Peter’s Hospital.
