Lillian Murphy Obituary

Lillian J. Murphy, 95, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023.

 

Lillian was born on June 21, 1927, in New York City, New York, the daughter of the late Ludwig and Elizabeth Lancaris. She was married to the late Daniel J. Murphy for 29 years.  They lived in Fort Lee, New Jersey; Wappinger Falls, New York; Kingston, New York; and Saugerties, New York, where she resided for over 60 years. 

 

Lillian was very active in Saugerties, New York. She was a bookkeeper at Paramount Pharmacy for 4 years and a 20-year employee at CVS in Saugerties, retiring in 2004. She was the Queen Mother of the Saugerties Red Hat Club, an active member of the Saugerties Senior Center, former President of the Saugerties Nursing Association and a long-standing member of St. Mary of the Snow Church. Lillian enjoyed knitting and hand knitted over 1600 Christmas stockings for friends and families all over the United States. She also enjoyed playing mahjongg, canasta cards, and going on senior center trips.

 

Lillian relocated to Ridgefield Crossings in Ridgefield, CT, in August of 2020, and she was very active in many activities there. She spent her final year as a resident of Filosa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danbury, CT.

 

Lillian was devoted to her family.  As her family grew, she took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being with her family brought her the most joy and happiness.

 

Lillian is survived by three children: Susan (John) King of Franklin, MA, Deborah Murphy of Ridgefield, CT, Kathleen (Steven) Procario of Mahopac, NY; five grandchildren: Whitney (Brad) Billerman, David (Allyson) King, John King, Andrew Procario and Christopher Procario; five great grandchildren: Chelsea, Derek, Ava, Henry and George; and her sister and brother-in-law Helen and Richard O’Malley of Ocala, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in 1980. 

Family and friends will remember and celebrate Lillian's life with a time of visitation on Sunday, April 30, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, at 45 John Street on the corner of John and Lafayette Streets, in Saugerties, New York.

 

Her funeral procession will form on Monday, May 1, at 9:45 a.m. at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home. Procession will continue to the St. Mary of the Snow Church for a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in the St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery.

 

Memorial donations may be made to the Saugerties Area Council of Churches, P.O. Box 723, Saugerties, Ny 12477; add Food Pantry on the check memo line.
