SAUGERTIES - Louis A. "Lou" Vogel, 93, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 at his residence. Born March 11, 1931 in Queens, NY he was the son of the late Louis and Hedwig Vogel. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served on the USS Benham during the Korean War. Lou married, Dorothy (Reirson) in 1952 and after his service moved into their current home in Saugerties where he joined IBM Kingston, working there for 34 years until his retirement in 1991. A member of the Saugerties American Legion Post #72, Lou was a very active member of the Saugerties Atonement Lutheran Church where he served on the consistory of the church and as executive director of its God Given Bread program; where he remained very active until just recently. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid golfer since high school; he was an early member of the Rip Van Winkle Hikers hiking club. He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 72 years, his daughters Karen Rakowski of Almonte, ON Canada and Pamela (Richard) Ozminkowski of Lodi, CA, his son, Robert Vogel (Mary Pat) of Livonia, NY, and nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Craig (Marie) Vogel and his sister Heidi Nering.
His Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at the Atonement Lutheran Church, Market St., Saugerties. Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & LaFayette Sts., Saugerties. Family suggests donations in his memory be made to God Given Bread, c/o the Saugerties Atonement Lutheran Church, Market St. Saugerties or Hudson Valley Hospice.
