Marie Burr Obituary

SAUGERTIES – Marie L.  Arrandale Burr, 80, of Saugerties, NY died peacefully at home with family on February 24, 2024.

Born May 16, 1943  in Belmont, MA she was the daughter of Peter & Rose Giordano.  Marie grew up in Oceanside, NY. and in 1961, she graduated from Oceanside High School and then earned her business degree from SUNY Farmingdale. Marie married her high school sweetheart Edward Arrandale in 1964.

As part of a large Italian family, family was central to Marie’s life from a young age. Most gatherings were considered successful if they included lots of people, food, and laughter.

Marie and Ed raised their family in Freeport, NY spending time with extended family, at the beach, or on the boat until moving to Saugerties,  in 1984.  Volunteerism and community involvement was a major theme in Marie’s life. She stayed connected to others through church and teaching CCD, was a Den Leader for Cub Scouts, coached Little League for decades and continued to support causes that helped others.   Ed died in August 1992. Together they are survived by 3 children: Edward Jr., Shawn, and Susanne and their families as well as their nephew Peter Giordano III and his family.

She married Richard Burr in 1998, who passed away in 2019, and relocated to Millbrook, NY. Together they are survived by Dick’s children and their families: Kevin Burr, Brian Burr, Richard Burr, Jr., and Brenda Burr Sidaras.  Survivors also include many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her Funeral Procession will form 9:30 AM Friday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties thence to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church where at 10 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.   Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.  Friends will be received on Thursday from 4-6 PM.   Family suggests donations in her memory be made to  St. John’s Food Pantry, Attn: Gabby Defino Baker, 25 Cedar Street, Saugerties, NY 12477 to help those in the community who need it the most.  Expressions of condolence may be shared with the family on Marie's Tribute Wall at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
