Marion M. Layman

SAUGERTIES….. Marion M. Layman,  86  of Blue Mt. Rd. went home to the Lord, Thursday, January 5, 2023 from  Green Meadows Nursing Home in Catskill, where she had resided since 2019.    She was the daughter of the late Elton and Ragnhild “Rae” Sjursen Stevens.  Born in Brooklyn,  she spent most of her youth on the mountain top in Maplecrest,  Hensonville,  and Jewett where she spent two years as a farmer’s wife before moving down the mountain to Hurley, Lake Katrine then the next 52 years on Blue Mt. Rd.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years , Theodore “Ted” Layman,  daughter JoAnne and her husband, Mark Fischetti of Lenox, MA.; two sons, Tim Layman,  and Jeff Layman and his partner, Kathy Raskoskie all of Saugerties; as well as three granddaughters, Megan Fischetti, Shalan Newkirk, and Tesia Layman.   She is predeceased by her brother Stanley Stevens  and  sister Naomi Murtha.

Marion was a active member of the Quarryville United Methodist Church where she served as chairperson of the Advisory Board and as a devoted choir member.   She was formerly Registrar for the Wiltwyck Daughters of the American Revolution, and a Sweet Adelines alto as well as a 4-H Leader.  Marion enjoyed genealogy, sewing, gardening, and was a skilled woodworker.  She loved animals, especially horses and dogs.

Her Funeral Service will be held Monday at 10:00 AM  at the Quarryville United Methodist Church, 14 Stay Rd.  Saugerties.    Interment will be held privately in the Blue Mt. Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Marion can be made to the Saugerties Animal Shelter or the Quarryville United Methodist Church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Cor. of John and LaFayette Sts., Saugerties.
