WALDORF,MD - Marjorie Heins Ciarlante passed away in the morning of May 4, 2026. Marjorie was born on March 5, 1943 in Virginia to Maynard and Marjorie Heins. She became the wife of Anthony V. Ciarlante after they met in 1970 where both were musicians in the National Concert Band of America in the Washington, D.C. area where she played the flute and Anthony played the trumpet. Marjorie earned her PhD from Northwestern University specializing in the study of Early American Inventors. Subsequently she worked for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C . for many years. One of the highlights of her career was setting up the Ronald Reagan papers and serving as curator at the Reagan Library in California.
Marjorie loved the Hudson Valley and was always up for a trip north to visit her husband's family. She loved hiking the Shawangunks and the Catskills and exploring the many historic sites of the Hudson Valley. She always looked forward to spending the holidays with the Ciarlante family, spending time with her nieces and nephews and ending the day with a musical jam; she played the flute and Anthony the euphonium and each youngster played their respective instruments. She will be remembered by them for her encouraging attitude and loving inspiration. Marjorie continued playing with both the aforementioned band as well as the Alexandria Citizens Band well into her eighties.
Marjorie was a member of the Davis Universalist Church at Temple Hills Maryland. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Helen Mae Peterson. She is survived by her husband Anthony V.Ciarlante; her brother Maynard Heins of Sterling Virginia and his three daughters; her brother-in-law Vincent J. (Dorothy) Ciarlante, sisters-in law Rosalie (Harry) Sleight and Gaetana Ciarlante; nieces Tara (Paul) Ciarlante Mergener, Deanna Ciarlante (Peter) Elstrom; Beth Ciarlante (Rob) Ramberg; Christa Sleight; nephews, Eugene DeAngelis, and David (Marcie) Sleight, and several grandnieces and grand nephews.
