SAUGERTIES…. Mary Dodig, 82, of Blue Mt. Rd. died Wednesday at her residence surrounded by her family. Born June 1, 1940, in Saugerties she was the daughter of the late Chris and Claire (Putnam) Mauterstock. A lifetime area resident Mary was a graduate of Saugerties High School Class of 1958, where she ranked third in her class in GPA. She attended Alfred University immediately after high school and got certified as a medical technician. After that, Mary spent several years employed as a phlebotomist in the Kingston area hospitals. While raising her family and her children were in school, she went back to get her master’s degree in Nursing from Mt. St. Mary. Mary then worked at Kingston Hospital in several departments including as the head of infection control. She finished her career working for many years for the Ulster County Health Department as their infection control specialist and finally as the supervising nurse for the county.
Mary was very proud of her career but her first love was her children and grandchildren. After retirement she was able to realize her lifelong love of travel and had many adventures with her family and friends as she traveled the world. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Predeceased by her husband, Stephen in 2017, survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Dodig-Sussman and her husband Joe of Saugerties, two sons, Chris and his wife, Michelle Dodig of Lanesboro, MA, Stephen and his wife, Melissa Dodig of Saugerties, her beloved niece, Mara O’Connell of Brooklyn, and five grandchildren: Shaun Sussman, Erin, Grace, Stephen and Jake Dodig. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret “Peggy” O’Connell.
Her Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 PM.
