Paul Augustine Donlon, Jr., 100, died peacefully on March 11, 2026. Paul was born and raised in Saugerties, NY, the eldest son of Paul A. Donlon, Sr. and Marion Donlon. Paul is predeceased by four sisters, Mary Bernadette Donlon, Adrienne Donlon, Marion Donlon and Barbara (Donlon) Huff and five brothers, Michael E. Donlon, Sr., Colonel Roger H.C. Donlon, Jack Donlon, Gerard Donlon and Joseph Donlon. Paul is survived by his sister-in-law Norma Donlon and many nieces and nephews.
Paul attended Saugerties High School. Upon graduation from high school, he served in the US Army’s 3rd Infantry Division during the Second World War from 1943-1945. He served honorably in campaigns including the Battles of Anzio and Cisterna (Italy) and the amphibious landing of southern France (Operation Dragoon). Paul was severely wounded in combat during the Vosges Mountains campaign (France). He was awarded numerous medals for service to his country and its allies. These include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, Bronze Star (with Triple Star and Arrowhead devices), the French Legion of Honour Medal (Chevalier), the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaigns Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Paul graduated from Manhattan College (NYC). He was a long-time resident of Manhattan, working for many years at the New York Times and Dow Jones. Paul retired to Saugerties where he was a faithful parishioner, sacristan and daily Communicant at his beloved St. Mary of the Snow Roman Catholic Church. Requiescat in Pace.
His Funeral Procession will form 9:15 am Wednesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Procession will continue to the St. Mary of the Snow Catholic Church for a 10 am Funeral Mass. The Rite of Christian Burial with military honors will follow. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Saugerties VFW Post 5034 and American Legion Post 72, 30 John St. Saugerties, NY 12477.
