Philip Discordia Obituary

SAUGERTIES - Philip P. “Phil” Discordia, 91, of Saugerties, New York, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on January 15, 1934, in New London, Connecticut, Phil was the son of Mary (Bonanno) and Ralph Discordia, who emigrated from Trapani, Italy, to begin a new life of opportunity. Phil grew up in New London before moving to Saugerties in 1969, where he and his beloved wife, Arlene J. (Petrini) Discordia built a home filled with love, laughter and family gatherings that became the center of his joy.

Phil proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps. He was a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering — a reflection of his keen intellect and fascination with how things worked.

His professional life included positions with RCA, Burroughs and Ferroxcube. He built and operated Modern Radio of Albany and later worked at Markertek in Saugerties, where he was admired for his work ethic, technical skill, and steady professionalism. Phil was also deeply involved in his community and was an active and respected member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4536, where he served as both Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. His leadership in the organization embodied his quiet strength, integrity, and belief in service to others.

Beyond his career and community, Phil’s greatest joy came from his family. He shared a loving marriage of 68 years with Arlene and took pride in their four children — Paula (Chris) Kerbert of Saugerties, Pamela (Kevin) Yates of West Camp, Robert (Krista) Discordia of Charlotte, NC, and Dana Discordia of New York City. He is the proud grandfather to Christopher (Carrie) Kerbert, Nicholas (Danielle) Kerbert, Julia (Mike) Sheehan, Erin Discordia (Ian Davis), and Aiden Discordia (Hayley Meehan), and a doting great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren who brought endless light to his later years: Natali and Audrey Kerbert, Mason Kerbert, Lila and Rory Sheehan.

Phil is survived by his brother, Joseph Discordia of Webster, MA; his sister-in-law, Ruth (Stuart) Discordia; brother-in-law, Arthur Petrini; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents and brothers Michael (Kelly), Marco (Mike), Philip, and Thomas.

In his younger years, Phil found joy in fishing with his brothers, playing softball, golfing, and woodworking. He had a craftsman’s touch and a calm patience that made him the one others turned to for help and advice. Yet his happiest times were always those spent in the company of his family — sharing meals, laughter, and stories that will now live on in their hearts.

Phil will be remembered as a man of quiet humility, and unshakable family devotion. His life was an example of integrity and kindness, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3-6 PM at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Glasco, Saturday at 10 am followed by interment at Blue Mountain Cemetery.
