SAWKILL - Richard J. Forgey, 71, of Hill Rd. died suddenly on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the Health Alliance Hospital, Mary's Ave., Kingston. Born August 19, 1953 in Kingston, he was the son of the late James and Mary Forgey. He was a proud graduate of John A. Coleman High School. He married Melisa Vedder on June 17, 1978. For 36 years, Richie was employed at the Ulster County Highway Dept where he worked as a welder. He retired in 2009.
Richie was a lifelong and devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kingston. He enjoyed auto repair and would often spend hours working on cars and trucks in his garage. He loved being with his family and sharing holidays and celebrations with his extended family. He especially enjoyed the company of his Uncle Bob Bodenweber, who passed in 2016.
In addition to his wife, Melisa, Richie is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Forgey-Lombardi and her husband Les, his sisters-in law, Melinda Lorne and her husband Kevin, Robin Anders and her husband Stephen, his brothers in law Craig Vedder, Steven Vedder and his wife Joane, his nieces, Cassidy Vedder, Jacqueline Vedder, his nephews, Gavin Lorne, Matt and Brandon Anders, Stephen M. Vedder, and his Aunt Barbara Bodenweber. Many cousins also survive. Richie was a loyal friend to many and treated his friends as part of his family. He just loved helping people out.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Kingston NY at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 17. Friends will be received on Sunday February 16, from 3:00 PM-6:00 PM at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home in Saugerties, NY.
