Robert “Bob” Blacker, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 6, 2026.
“He had fun.” (“That should be the first line of my obituary”) ~Robert Blacker
Born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of the late James Blacker, Jr. and Hazel May Blacker. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Tonya Grossi (Son in law Michael Grossi), of Sarasota, Florida and Tara Schatzel (Son in law Michael Schatzel Sr.) of Saugerties, New York. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, Michael Jr. , Samantha (Brandon North), Lacey Schatzel; Jessica, and Joseph Grossi and a great-granddaughter, Payton North. Bob is also survived by his brother, Dan, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, as well as many cousins, nephews, and nieces who will cherish his memory. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Jim, in 2003.
Bob graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1960 and went on to earn a degree in mathematics from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1964. He later built a long and successful career with IBM before retiring in 1989.
Bob lived an active and curious life filled with many passions. He was a ski instructor at Windham Mountain and a certified U.S. Coast Guard captain who loved spending time on the water. Whether playing tennis, shooting pool, hiking, riding his bicycle, or cooking for family and friends, Bob embraced life with energy and enthusiasm.
He also enjoyed sharing his talents with others. Bob participated in Arm of The Sea puppet theater and served as an instructor in an adult education program at Bard College, always eager to teach and connect with his community. A talented piano player, he often filled the room with music—especially his beloved “Winter Wonderland,” a tune that will forever bring smiles and warm memories to those who knew him.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 pm at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc. In keeping with Bob’s love of the mountains and the sea, his ashes will be scattered at Windham Mountain and in the ocean off Block Island.
Bob will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of music and the outdoors, and most of all for the joy he brought to his family and friends. Please share a memory or a photo in Bob's Tribute Book at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
