SAUGERTIES - Robert C. "Bob" Moran, 76, of Lamb Ave., died peacefully on Thursday, September 17th, surrounded by his family at home. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Born June 13, 1949 in Cold Spring he was the son of the late Edward and Amelia Moran. An area resident for 50 years, he carried with him the values of small-town life, hard work, loyalty, and community. Bob went on to build a long and dedicated career with Verizon, where he worked for over 35 years.
In 1974, he married the love of his life, Helene Bartolotta of Germantown. Together they shared over 5 decades of marriage, raising their two daughters, Moira and Breanne, in a home filled with love, humor and encouragement. He was especially proud of his role as a little league softball coach, spending many years mentoring and supporting his daughters and their teammates. For many years, he was a member of the Colby’s Tavern softball team in the SAA men’s league.
Growing up near the birthplace of baseball, he became an avid fan of the game in a lifelong supporter of the New York Mets. He was also a Buffalo Bills fan. He carried pride in his hometown roots, bringing the family to back to Cooperstown, Otsego Lake and the Flycreek Cider Mill on annual trips that became a treasured tradition. Outside of work and family, Bob found joy in the outdoors. He was happiest near the water, whether casting a line in the lower Esopus or taking his boat out on the Hudson on a sunny afternoon.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Helene, two daughters: Moira and her husband, Greg DeCelle and Breanne Dwyer both of Saugerties. A sister, Linda Semilof of Florida. Four grandchildren: Allyson, Casey, Lillian and Declan and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his siblings, Lillian, Joan, Gail and Edward Moran. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, his love a baseball, and the way he quietly and consistently showed up for those he loved.
