SAUGERTIES - Robert Sperl, 93, of Elm St. died Saturday, March 22, 2025 at his residence. Born May 7, 1931 in Saugerties he was the son of the late Leonard and Iva Sperl. A Veteran of the US Army, Bob served with the 7th Army 54th Engineering Battalion in Germany during the Korean War. He was a water supply specialist who purified water for the troops when they were in the field.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5034, American Legion Post #72, and a 50 year member of the Plumber and SteamFitters Union. Bob was a very active life member of the Saugerties Fish and Game Club where he served as a president. In the late 50's he started shooting trap out on Washington Ave., and after a few years moved to where the Club is now in Fish Creek. Over the years he won many trophies for trap shooting.
Survivors include his best friend and partner, Ruth Johnson, Hayley, Dave and Clinton Stutzman as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara and his siblings, Eleanor Longendyke, Woodrow, William, Leonard and Carlton Sperl.
His Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery.
