Sonya I. Cafaldo

Sonya I Cafaldo, 88 of Glasco, NY passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2023 at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine. Born December 9, 1934 in Hughesville, PA she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Nellie  (Minier) Shaheen. 
 Sonya came to Kingston at the age of 14 to live with her Aunt, Alice  Hutton.   She was a graduate of Kingston High School and a graduate of the Benedictine School of Nursing.  She was a nurse for over 40 years until her retirement from Hutton’s Nursing Home owned by her Aunt.     She was a member of the Glasco Fireman’s ladies auxiliary for over 50 years. 
 Her family was everything to her!  A devoted wife, mother, and Grandmother; Bema to her grandchildren.  Predeceased by her husband Charles Cafaldo, Sr in 2014 and her son Thomas Cafaldo in 2010.  Also, predeceased by her brothers Charlie and Damon Shaheen.  She is survived by her children; daughters, Donna Cafaldo of Schenectady, Gina (Bruce) Hanson of Glasco, Pattie (Mike) Lutfring of Glasco and a son Charles Cafaldo, Jr. (Brenda) of Leeds; nine Grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers; Samuel Shaheen, of Camel, Pa and William Shaheen of Williamsport, Pa and several nieces and nephews.  We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Ten Broeck for the tremendous  care she received during her time there.  
Her funeral service will be held 10 am Friday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc. Corner of John and Lafayette streets, Saugerties.  Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery.   Friends and family will be received on Thursday from 4pm - 7 pm    Family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Glasco Fire Dept.
