KINGSTON…. Stanley I. Strath, 80, of E. Chester St. died Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at HealthAlliance Hospital after a long illness. Born February 6, 1943 in Baltimore, MD., son of the late William and Hazel Strath, Sergeant Strath was veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War. Returning to Ellenville after his service, he met and fell in love with Lorraine Crawford and raised his family til the late 1980’s - often working two jobs - at VAW Aluminum Factory, managing a Woolworths, being they sold for a nice profit - and Stan joined the Postal Service for 26 years. Retired as US Postmaster (West Camp) in 2009, Stan remained a Realtor in Ulster County til 2011. He and Lorraine served as foster parents together for more than a decade in Saugerties, helping more than 30 children. It was a way for them to provide a sense of home to others in need. Stan knew what unmet needs meant growing up while always being moved from Baltimore, the Bronx, and Orange & Sullivan Counties. He finally found home in Ulster County, thanks to many of you.
Stan was a member of the Blue Kats Mens Club and the Knight of Columbus Chapter in Saugerties. Survivors include his beloved Lorraine, his sons: Christopher Matthews and Charles Pavlik; his nephew, Richard Strath and niece, Mary Smith. He was predeceased by his treasured daughters, Stacey and Rebecca Strath, as well as his brothers Robert Strath, Francis Bennett & Raphael Bennett; sister, Veronica Bennett-Rosa; and niece, Barbara Strath.
His graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 am Monday at the Blue Mt. Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Blue Kats in his memory.
