Theodore Layman died Sunday, October 1, 2023, as he wished: at his home on Blue Mountain Road, asleep in his recliner, surrounded by his "kids." Born June 12, 1933, in Ashland, NY, he was the son of the late Lester and Amelia Layman.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marion Layman, who passed earlier this year, and his siblings, Gary Layman and June Nichols.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnne Fischetti (Mark) of Lenox, MA; sons Tim Layman and Jeffrey Layman (Kathy Raskoskie) both of Saugerties; granddaughters Megan Fischetti, Shalan Newkirk, and Tesia Layman; and step-grandson Nicholas Fischetti.
An area resident for many years, Ted was an active member of the Quarryville Methodist Church. He loved and excelled at many sports. His WAJ high school basketball team was state champion in 1951. The next year, he had a .444 batting average. He was a member of softball teams that were IBM and SAA league champs. One of Ted's proudest moments was when he and son Jeff hit back to back home runs. Ted rolled a 300 game in bowling, and had a hole in one on #8 at the Windham Country Club. He was an avid Yankees fan and couldn't miss a game of the UConn Women's Basketball Team also known as 'his girls.'
